Other October Festivities

After DisneyWorld, we carried on with our normal October activies.

Cason had a flash mob at his school where they perfomed the Monster Mash.  So cute!

Cason is way far away in the video.  But still cute!

Corbin’s school had their annual walkathon.  This year he did more laps than his goal!  He even did some by himself and ran a lot of them!  I was super proud.  He didn’t have the most, by far.  I can’t believe elementary kids can do as many as they do!  Sorry the below pic is not focused.  Each class walks the first lap together!

It was a fun time!!

So the Giants made the World Series.  We had some friends over to watch one of the games but it was also the trunk or treat at church.  The guys stayed and we took the kids for a few minutes.  (I didn’t want to miss much either!)  Corbin and Kinsley didn’t even wear the costumes we had picked out for them.  They just chose random ones from our dress ups.

I thought this was a cool set up on one of the cars.

Now for Halloween.  Corbin and Cason had their parades the same day just half an hour apart.  So it was rushing from one to the other.  (I’m hoping next year won’t be the same!)

Corbin’s parade was first!  His cute class!

After Corbin walked by we rushed to Cason’s parade.

Cason had 5 Elsa’s in his class!

Kinsley and I went to music class and she got to wear her costume.  It only lasted for 30 seconds.

IMG_6717

Kinsley and I picked up Cason from school and they had to get some pics on the couch in the classroom.

IMG_9629

Then we picked up Corbin from school!

IMG_6729

Then we went to my mom’s work party!

Then we went home and got ready for trick or treating.  They decided on the Toy Story theme for the actual trick or treating.

Happy Halloween!!!

DIsneyWorld 2014

We went to DisneyWorld with the Duke side and had a blast.  This was the third time going and there were tons if differences this time than the first two times around.  Since our kids were older they could stay at the parks longer and wanted to do more.  The first time, Corbin was 9 months old and the second time Corbin was 2 1/2 and Cason was 9 months old.  We were tired every day and night (especially since we were staying up late to watch the playoff games the Giants were playing in).

I have over 700 pictures and that’s not including ones I don’t have from other family members.  It will probably be a mostly pictures post with a few stories thrown in here and there.

Saturday: Leaving for Orlando

Flying was pretty easy this time!  We each had our own seat! Yay!  The boys were happy to play on iPad’s and do the other activities I brough for them!  Kinsley wouldn’t take a nap, despite us having her in her carseat with her binky and dog.  I even asked for some milk for her like she usually has before nap.  I noticed the milk wasn’t very cold and I think it was a mistake to give it to her because she threw up once we got in the rental car.  So we skipped going to one of the parks that night like we planned.

Sunday: Sabbath

The Orlando temple had been built since the last time we were there and we went to church right across the street.  So after, we headed over to take pictures. (We missed Lacey and Jonny!)

There were these lizzards covering the outside of the temple.  The kids thought it was fun to count how many.

Friday: Animal Kingdom

Just before the below picture, we had a bog scare.  We lost Kinsley.  We had taken lots of precautions, getting the kids to wear a tracker braclet and wrote our phone number in Sharpie on their arms.  However when Kinsley was gone within a split second of us turning our heads, we had never been so scared.  A Disney employee immediately asked us information about her and reassured me that they would find her.  Sure enough he had helped locate her within minutes, but of course it felt like forever.  She had no idea she was lost.

We went back here to try and make it to the Jedi training for Corbin.  We had missed the last time and this time he was only signed up as an alternate but he made it on the first show which was what we needed him to so we wouldn’t miss our flight!

Pumpkin Patch

This is year 7 going to this pumpkin patch with our kids.  I just went through the pictures from all the past years seeing each of them as they have grown through the years and I just loved it.  The kids also loved seeing themselves growing and getting to hear stories about what they were like at those ages.

I’m grateful for my family and for the technology that helps me to remember joyous moments from the past!

This was the one day we could go this year because of all the other things we have planned this month and unfortunately, it was a very hot day.  It’s a pumpkin patch close to the ocean and it was still 90 degrees.  But the kids had a blast anyway.

We had a great time as usual!

Dear Sons (and Daughter)

Recently, I came across THIS article that I thought was really great at explaing my thoughts on this (sensitive) subject.  I want to print it here too, just in case the link ever stops working.

It is from a father to his son but I think it is appropriate coming from parents to their kids as well.

Dear Son,

You have your own smart phone, and you have access to the family computer, too. I realize you know how to use these devices more than I do. I also realize that if you want to know anything, it's not hard for you just to Google it and find thousands of websites that will tell you about anything you want. But there are just some things that Google can't tell you; like whether Stephanie in your second period really likes you or not. It also can't tell you whether you should try out for the soccer team or the swim team.

Another thing that Google can't tell you about is pornography. I realize in this information age that you have probably already seen pornography (or at least have had friends show you). I also realize that, despite my best efforts, I can't shelter you from the Internet. And no matter how hard you try not to, you'll probably come across pornography, anyway.

So instead of pretending that you may not see pornography I'm going to talk to you more about when you see pornography.

First off, let me just say that there's a reason pornography is a multi-billion dollar business. A lot of men view it because it's exciting, and they find it attractive. As a boy yourself, you will, too. Don't feel embarrassed or ashamed by it when you see it and like it. It only means that you're human.

Second, don't let the excitement of it overrun you. It's fake. There's a reason they call the people in the videos actors — because they're acting. Real sex isn't like what you see online. It's not as loud, wild and vulgar. And it's not supposed to be that way, either. Pornography is widely made for men and meant to appeal to men's fantasies. As a result, producers create videos that are going to be the most enticing to men. But real sex isn't just for men. It's for women, too. And if you measure your sex life by what you see in the videos, you're going to be disappointed because it won't all be about you. Don't be the kind of guy who only wants his selfish desires satisfied. Your wife will like sex, too if you do it right — if you focus on her, too. And when you both enjoy it together, it'll be a lot better than anything you see online.

Third, even if you like what you see in the videos, that doesn't mean you'll like it in real life. Again, this goes back to the fact that the people in the movies are actors. They're supposed to act like what they're doing is great and wonderful — that's what sells the videos. But don't let the videos tell you what you should or shouldn't like. Don't let them tell you what you should or shouldn't do with your wife, either. And definitely don't let them tell you what your wife should like or what your wife should do. That's for you and your wife to figure out together.

Fourth, pornography really can destroy a person. I know, I know. Millions of men view pornography, and they're not all perverts or deviants. And I know that most of the men who view pornography are regular, average productive citizens. Nevertheless, pornography really can destroy a person. It creates unrealistic expectations that will leave you unsatisfied sexually. It'll leave your wife unsatisfied sexually. And you'll be tempted to leave an otherwise great relationship. Or you'll get kicked out because it makes your wife unhappy.

I'm happy to talk about whatever questions you have. And I sincerely mean it when I say that I'd rather have you ask me whatever questions you have than to ask Google. I'm not perfect, so I can't guarantee that I'll always have the answer, and I can't guarantee that I'll always take the questions well. But I will talk with you about it. And we'll be able to find an answer together.

All my love,

Dad
