1st Grade Performance

Corbin had his first grade performance.  At the Walkathon Silent Auction in October we had bid on 4 reserved front row seats to this performance and WON!  Can I just say this was the best thing on earth?  We could come just before the show started and have no one blocking our view of him!  Seriously, I want to bid on this every year!

The theme for this performance was all about America.  It was a great show!

Cason’s Birthday and Party

My littlest man is 5!  He turned 5 on the 5th!  His GOLDEN birthday!!!!

IMG_8447

We are so blessed to have his sweet and thougtful spirit in our home.  My wish is that he knows he is loved forever!

The night before his birthday Connor and I decorated the house.  We’ve been using the same decorations for every kid for years now, but they all seem to love that the decorations are just for them!

Then I made him his requested breakfast of pancakes with chocolate chips!  I made a pancake shaped C for Cason.

IMG_8442

At school they celebrated his birthday and he got a special crown!

IMG_8445

For lunch Cason requested pancakes and sushi.  I thought that was a little weird and we had eaten all the pancakes from the morning so I didn’t think I would be able to honor his request.  But I was going to Trader Joe’s while he was at school so I grabbed some frozen mini pancakes and a container of sushi.  My silly kid!

When we walked to pick up Corbin from school, Kinsley and Cason were actually getting along!

IMG_8450

For dinner, we met Connor (and Holly and Jona) at Chuck E Cheese.

IMG_8456
IMG_8454

Then we came back and sang happy birthday and had some cupcakes.

IMG_8464

For Corbin’s 5th birthday, he chose to go to Pump It up.  Cason decided to go to Safari Run.  I’m not sure why we decided to make the 5th birthday a friend party but we did and now that’s what we do.  Usually we just have family parties.

On Cason’s party day, he was so excited!  I went upstairs and he was making his bed.  I asked him why and he said “For my party.”  I told him we weren’t having the party at our house so no one would be coming into his room.  He said he knew and that was okay.  Fine by me too!!!

IMG_8490

I made Cason’s cake iand cupcakes in the morning for the party that evening.  Cason chose the Lego face he wanted and I tried my best to copy it.

Then it was time to go!!

When we were leaving I asked Cason if he had a good time.  He said, “Yeah, everyone loves me!”  I think it was a successful birthday if he felt loved!!!

A few days later, Cason had his 5 year check up getting ready for Kindergarten.

IMG_8554
IMG_8559

He did great at the doctor despite having to get some shots.  My favorite moment of the appointment was when the doctor was discussing healthy habits with him.  She asked him about fruits and veggies and drinking water.  Then she asked, “What do you do at night with your eyes closed?”  She was looking for “sleep” but he said “Pray”.

His stats at the doctor:

34 lbs. (6th percentile)
40 inches (6th percentile)
14.9 BMI (33 percentile)
94/57 blood pressure

His doctor asked how we feel about Cason being on the smaller end of scales.  The only reason it bothers me is because I don’t want him to be made fun of because of it.  I don’t want him to feel inferior for any reason.  I know that I cannot prevent him from having hard times as much as I want to.  But I can be there for him when he’s sad and  encourage him to try his best.  As long as he knows he is loved then I think it will be okay.

The things that he excels at:

-being thoughtful of others (especially his family)
-drawing pictures
-giving hugs
-forgiving
-he is very contemplative.  He asks the greatest questions about life.

The things we are working on:

-being nice to his sister and ignoring when she isn’t being nice to him
-obedience
-trying not to complain

Each year I ask the kids the smae 20 questions around their birthday time.  Here are Cason’s at age 5:

1. What is your favorite color?  BLUE
2.  What is your favorite toy?  OCTONAUTS
3.  What is your favorite fruit?  APPLES

Tahoe

Connor and I decided our family needed a nice getaway.  The boys had been asking to go to Tahoe for a while and they also wanted to see and play in the snow.  Connor used HomeAway to find us an amazing house to stay in.  Our backyard being the National Forest.  We were lucky with pretty much everything.  There was snow the whole time we were there.  It was warm when we first got there and then snowed (and got extremely cold) in the middle of our time there and then warmed up the last bit.

We left around 10am to drive up there and it was mostly uneventful until we hit traffic because tons of people were sledding on the side of the road.

Our first sight of snow!

As soon as we got there the kids wanted to play in it immediately.  This sort of surprised me.  I knew they wanted to play in theory, but I thought once they got out and realized how cold it was they wouldn’t be as interested anymore. Not the case at all.  They loved it and Corbin especially did.

We wanted to get all unpacked but Corbin kept begging to go out and play with all the snow gear, so we got all bundled up and headed out.

Then, of course, we needed to go back and out play.  This time we brought sleds!

Then late afternoon, we had a scare.  An alarm went off saying we need to evacuate immediately because carbon monoxide was detected.  We rushed outside, some of us with no shoes, and got in the van in the driveway.  We called 911 and they came fairly quickly even though we weren’t super close to town.  It turns out the alarm randomly went off and there wasn’t any carbon monoxide actually.  The kids thought it was exciting to see real fireman in action!

Kinsley being a photographer!

Books before bed!

IMG_8271

So Kinsley had been fighting a cold and it got worse while we were there.  This night she did not sleep for most of the night and either did we.  She had a fever but we could not get her to take any medicine.  She spit it out, she refused even when we bribed her.  A day or so later, we finally had to resort to holding her down and making it go in her mouth.  The first two times were pure torture but after that she would take it better (still needing to be held though).  And she eventually stopped having fevers.  So that night she “slept" in our bed with us and this was my view in the morning!  It was snowing!!!

IMG_8273

We needed to go out while it was snowing and do some sledding!  We were mean to drag Kinsley with us but she and I didn’t stay out too long!

We had eaten all our meals at home so we decided to go out that night for dinner.  We were driving around for awhile and finally just stopped at a place.  It was pretty empty which I thought wasn’t a good sign, but when we got out of the car, I realized it might have been empty because it was FREEZING.  It was about 15 degrees and incredibly windy.  I had never been that cold before.  It was just a random diner, but the food was decent which was all we needed at that time!  Of course we need silly face pictures while we wait for our food!

IMG_8317

Then the kids got to take a nice warm bath in the jacuzzi tub!

IMG_8329

New Years Eve!!!

On our way home from church we passed by Lake Tahoe and saw that the water near the shore was frozen.  We had wanted to go take a look at it and since we were going into town to see a movie, we thought we’d check it out then.  Well, since we had first seen it, it had snowed so there was a ton of snow on the beach and lake.  We ventured out but it took so long to get our snow gear on and it was 15 degrees that we only stayed out long enough to get this picture!

IMG_8345

Then we headed to the movie to see Night at the Museum.  The boys loved it!!

IMG_8350
IMG_8352

That night we stayed in and ate at home.  I explained to the kids what exactly New Years Eve was and they seemed pretty excited to have our “party”.  We toasted!

We ate fondue (our tradition on New Years Eve).

New Years Day!

We had another lazy morning but then we got out for a hike to a stream/river near our place.  It was some of the most beautiful scenery I had seen! It was so much warmer than the past couple days so it was very pleasant!  Beautiful day!

That evening we headed back into town to eat a nicer resturant.  Since it was warmer we thought we’d try to go out closer to the lake.  The kids thought it was fun to try and skate.

Then we got in our pj’s and played a few games before bed.

Kinsley needed to do a little dance before each time it was her turn to roll the dice.  It was cute but made the games last forever!
